Sometimes I wonder...

Sometimes I wonder about what is going on inside Derek's head. When Melissa posted about checking her kids for ticks, I thought about this assignment Derek had at school. If you know about the story, "If you give a Pig a Pancake", then you know the story starts with giving a pig a pancake, who then asks for your favorite syrup, then needs a bath, etc, etc. Based off this book, he was supposed to come up with his own "IF" situation. This is what he said, "If you take a mite or tick to the hospital...

"It will get the sick people more sick". Lovely. I'm not sure where Derek's knowledge of mites and ticks comes from, but he had mentioned it quite a bit over the week preceeding that.
Here's another assignment. One side is Good and one side is Bad...( Sorry it's sideways)

"Bad- A ninja is trying to kill me when i was graduating college. HEY! (At least I know he's planning on graduating from college- note that he even has a graduation cap).

Good- I got a trillion dollars! Cool. ( I think those are giant presents surrounding him apparently full of money).
For a while he was also praying a lot for poor people or people that don't have food or houses to live in. I have read that gifted children are more aware of larger social issues and are bothered by them, but this is the first time I had seen it in Derek. I think it was because they were raising money at school for Haiti.
